DESCRIPTION
French school of the late nineteenth-early twentieth century.
"Still life of grapes".
Oil on canvas.
Signed (illegible) in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 51 x 70.5 cm; 69 x 89 cm (frame).
A wicker basket overflows with bunches of black and white grapes next to vine leaves arranged in a casual way. The basket rests on the damp earth, from which sprout clover, weeds and the occasional flower. The still life takes up a genre of baroque tradition, seeking extreme naturalism and a play of light that manages to extract the right reflections of the smooth skin of the ripe fruit.
