Typologically, this work is related to the so-called Casacones painting, which is inspired by the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and, in France, it is known as "de tableautin" painting. Another characteristic is its inspiration in gallant themes, or, as in the present case, it represents idealized 17th century musketeers, etc. Normally, this type of works were of small format, made with a precious technique, had great success among the bourgeoisie of the nineteenth century. In addition, they were often inspired by works by Fragonard, Boucher and Watteau for the gallant scenes, and by Velázquez, Van Dyck, etc. for those inspired by the Baroque.
