DESCRIPTION
Italian school of the XIX century
"Four seasons".
Four oil paintings on cardboard.
The gilded frames have missing polychrome.
Measurements: 40 x 25 cm; 45 x 30 cm.
Set of four oil paintings of Pompeian inspiration. They represent dancing muses as allegories of the four seasons. The figures seem to float emerging from a black background. The type of costume and attributes indicate the season to which they refer. Thus, for example, the allegory of summer is shown only with a fine gauze that reveals its voluptuous forms. Spring carries in her hands a bundle of ears of wheat and a sickle. The paintings adhere to the neoclassical taste of the nineteenth century, although they are from a later period.
