Per Wickenberg was a Swedish painter of romanticism known mainly for his landscapes and natural scenes with a melancholic atmosphere and a delicate use of light. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and developed part of his career in Paris, where he gained recognition, noted for depicting winter landscapes, seascapes and dramatic skies typical of northern Europe, although his career was brief due to his death at the age of 34, which limited his production but not his importance in Swedish art.
