José María Jardines was formed in the School of Fine Arts of Cadiz, from where he would pass to the School of San Fernando in Madrid. He then traveled to various places in Europe and ended up settling in Paris, where he lived for several years. He produced an extensive body of work specializing in landscape and genre subjects. Characterized above all by a meticulous style, with a pleasing and brilliant palette, the paintings entitled "La torre de la aldea", "Calle granadina", "El arrabal de Sevilla", "Canal de Venecia", "Vista de l'Oise", "Un albergue", etc. are worth mentioning as examples of his production. Throughout his career Jardines held numerous exhibitions in Cadiz, Madrid, Paris and several Latin American cities. In 1914 he finally left the French capital due to the outbreak of the First World War and returned to Cadiz, where he held a successful exhibition shortly after. There he also taught at the city's Academy of Fine Arts. His son and disciple was Antonio Jardines.
