José Ignacio Baqué was trained at the School of Fine Arts of San Luis, and, later, at the School of Architecture of Barcelona. He was a member of the Azuda-40 Group until 1974. At first he was interested in figuration with a strong expressionist character in the use of color and line. From 1963, as a result of his stay in Barcelona and his connection with Catalan artists, he began to reduce his chromatic range and to be interested in abstraction and in a painting of a material type, sober in color, which connects with the informalist currents. However, he will never completely abandon the figurative world, as the human being will always be central in his production.
