Painter, draftsman, engraver and enameller, Carles Madirolas combined his artistic practice with teaching, which he did at the Massana and Arts and Crafts Schools in Barcelona. After a fleeting first expressionist stage, he soon established himself in a personal cubism that would gradually become the basis of his work, only perceptible at a structural level. Totally focused on his painting, he practically did not hold exhibitions, nor did he take part in the frequent anthologies in which most of the artists of his generation participated. However, in 2002 an anthological exhibition was dedicated to him at the Diocesan Museum of Barcelona. In 1951 he was awarded the National Engraving Prize, and he also worked in mural painting, of which the decoration he did for the Zurich building in Barcelona is a magnificent example. He is currently represented in various private collections.
