A consolidated artist in the international art market, Josep Puigmarti focuses his work on the surrealist language. Considered one of the most prolific artists of the European plastic art of the second half of the 20th century, the Catalan artist works a transgressive and original work derived from his travels around the world: Paris, California, Sweden, Denmark or Japan have been the cities that have seen his technique evolve, as well as the conception of his works. During the 60's, 70's and 80's, Puigmartí introduced in his surrealist paintings a whole iconography of erotic style that earned him the consideration of a transgressor artist who practiced a provocative style, by the critics of the time. According to the artist himself on his website, "Nowadays I lead a life of routines, unlike before. Now I like to be here, by the Mediterranean, get up early -I have never liked the night and its ghosts-, exercise and lock myself in my studio where new works emerge without having thought of them before. I draw, I make compositions with objects, I work and work and work. In life it is of little use to think if you don't get to work. You have to do things, never stop doing". Puigmartí's work can be found at the Hotel del Arte in Sitges, the city where he has lived since 1989.
