Marià Llavanera was formed in Olot in the School of Beautiful Trades directed by Iu Pascual. He made stays in Paris, Belgium and Italy, and exhibited in Barcelona, Girona and Figueres (Alt Empordà). He excelled in landscape painting, especially the surroundings of Lladó in the border area between the Garrotxa and the Empordà. In 1927, a few months before his death, he exhibited in the Layetanas Galleries in Barcelona, where he had already done so in previous years (1921, 1922, 1924). Posthumously, several retrospective exhibitions were organized in Barcelona and Figueres. In 1984 the City Council of Lladó held a tribute exhibition in the same town. Currently, the Biblioteca Museu Víctor Balaguer has works by the artist.
