DESCRIPTION
JORDI ANDREU FRESQUET (Badalona, Barcelona, 1940).
Untitled. 1972
Oil on canvas.
Signed and dated in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 65 x 65 cm; 67 x 67 cm (frame).
This work by Andreu Fresquet shows a human figure in movement, barely defined, suspended in an ambiguous and dark space. There is no recognizable face: identity is subordinated to the expression of gesture and bodily tension.
This painting is representative of the artist's most introspective and expressive period in the early seventies, when his work focuses on the human condition, vulnerability and the tension between presence and disappearance, placing himself in a middle ground between figuration and abstraction.
Fresquet participated in a large number of competitions, biennials and group exhibitions, winning prizes such as the Ros i Güell (Badalona, 1969), the First Prize City of Hospitalet (1970) or the City of Badalona painting award, among others.
