DESCRIPTION
Granada school of the early twentieth century.
"Views of the Alhambra".
Pair of oil paintings on opaline.
Signed "Antonio Blanco".
Measurements: 40 × 26 cm; 51 × 37 cm (frame).
Interesting pair of oil paintings on opaline representing architectural views of the Alhambra in Granada, one of the most emblematic monuments of the Spanish romantic imaginary. The compositions delicately depict two characteristic spaces of the Nasrid complex: a courtyard with a central fountain and plasterwork arches, and a porticoed corner with arcades and vegetation, evoking the luminous and orientalizing atmosphere of the monument.
The technique on opaline - a vitreous support with a smooth and slightly translucent surface - allows for a vibrant application of color, with a predominance of ochers, golds and reddish tones that reinforce the warm and evocative character of the scenes. The loose and atmospheric treatment of the background contrasts with the greater detail in the architectural elements, achieving balanced compositions of great decorative appeal.
