The title Esperancé reinforces the metaphorical reading of the landscape as a transitional space, where the road and the open doors act as symbols of access to an idealized or interior place. Symbolic and serene landscape in which a road flanked by bare trees leads to a small island surrounded by water. The composition is framed by two open gates in the foreground, a resource that suggests an invitation to pass through or to contemplate an interior, almost spiritual space.
The work stands out for its geometric and balanced structure, with stylized trees that create a deep perspective towards the background of the landscape. The use of intense and flat colors, especially the turquoise sky, gives the scene a dreamlike and contemplative character. This treatment of the landscape, closer to symbolic evocation than to naturalistic description, recalls certain tendencies of Naïf and Symbolism developed in 20th century European painting.
