LODEWIJK POST DE JONG ( The Hague, 1932-2003).
Untitled.
Oil on canvas.

Trained at the Royal Academy of Art, Lodewijk Post de Jong, acquired a solid academic base that soon oriented towards a practice centered in the portrait and the representation of the human figure. His career unfolded mainly between The Hague, Delft and Amsterdam, cities that not only shaped his vital geography, but also his pictorial evolution. Throughout his career, Post de Jong distinguished himself by a direct and sincere approach to the model, avoiding artifice to focus on the presence and psychology of the portrayed. His work, inscribed in the contemporary Dutch figurative tradition, reflects a balance between technical rigor and modern sensibility, as reflected in reference studies such as those of H. Redeker on portraiture in the Netherlands.
In this context, his link with leading figures of Dutch culture, such as Max Heymans, one of the country's great couturiers, whose personality and social relevance made him an ideal model for artists interested in capturing not only appearance, but also the character and identity of his time, is particularly significant. The relationship between art and fashion, embodied in figures like Heymans, underscores the permeability between disciplines in the Dutch cultural landscape of the 20th century.
