Joan Rifà studied drawing and painting between 1949 and 1956, first at the School of Arts and Crafts of La Lonja and later at the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi, both in Barcelona. In the latter he was a disciple of Francesc Labarta. Between 1956 and 1973 he dedicated himself to religious and profane mural painting, using fresco, oil, tempera and ceramics. He travels around Europe and holds exhibitions in Sweden, Germany, Switzerland and France, where he obtains distinctions such as the Gold Medal of the Fondation Herbert d'Ukerman (Grenoble), and is named Sociétaire de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He has also participated in international exhibitions in Japan, Canada, Yugoslavia and the United States. In the field of graphic arts, the series of twelve etchings made for a book by Gabriel Coussin, presented at the Carcassone Festival, stands out. He is currently represented in private collections in Europe and America.
