On this occasion René Reiner offers us a surrealist dream scene where naked and almost unreal human figures appear in an infinite space with luminous halos, floating geometries and an empty landscape that defies logic and reality. The silent, mysterious and symbolic atmosphere seeks to express the world of the subconscious and provoke a sense of strangeness, fundamental characteristics of surrealism influenced by artists such as Dalí, Magritte and De Chirico.
Arthur Maria Plomteux, also known as René Reiner, Arthur-Maria Rener or simply Rener, developed an oeuvre linked to surrealism and a very personal geometric-metaphysical imaginary. After beginning with figurative and abstract compositions, from the mid-1940s he created dreamlike scenes populated by naked figures, spheres, floating architectures and infinite spaces with checkered floors, very close to surrealism and European metaphysical painting. He was a member of Belgian artistic groups such as Fantasmagie, Origines and Liberté, and his work maintained a dialogue with the post-war European avant-garde.
