"Do you copy?", Caracas, 2009-2013
India ink and watercolor pencil on canvas.

Measurements: 132 x 132 x 5 cm.
"Do you copy?" is articulated as a dense gestural plot where the stroke, repeated and superimposed, builds a vibrant field of contained energy. Chacón shifts the writing towards an abstract territory, close to expanded calligraphy, in which each line functions as a register of time and action. Under his apparent spontaneity lies a rigorous structure, where rhythm, accumulation and emptiness generate a constant visual tension, in tune with his research on perception, sequence and trace.
Painter and designer, trained at the Escuela Cristóbal Rojas and the Instituto Neumann in Caracas, he completed studies at the Chelsea School of Art and the London College of Printing. A key figure of the Venezuelan abstract renovation, he combined an outstanding career as a graphic designer with a plastic research focused on line, space and materiality. Winner of the Painting Prize at the 50th Anniversary Salon of the BCV (1990), his work is part of the most rigorous approaches of contemporary Latin American abstraction.
