Waterman is a writing instruments company founded in 1883 in New York by Lewis Edson Waterman. It is considered one of the oldest fountain pen companies still in operation.
Its main innovation was the capillary feed system patented in 1884, which allowed ink to flow steadily to the nib and prevented drips. Later, the company introduced innovations such as the pocket clip, retractable nibs and ink cartridge systems.
After the founder's death, the company expanded internationally and greatly increased its production. Since 1967, Waterman pens have been manufactured in France, from where they are exported to many countries.
