BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

GENET ET MICHON (France)
Pair of vases, ca.1930.
In glass.
Signed.
Measurements: 25 x 16.5 x 16.5 cm. each.

Pair of vases of the French firm Genet et Michon. In transparent molded glass, with chiseled motifs. One of them is carved with palmettes nested in each other forming circles or layers whose result is extremely elegant, in line with the Art Deco aesthetic. The other follows a more organic aesthetic.

Genêt & Michon was a leading French firm in the design and production of luminaires and decorative glass objects during the Art Deco period. Founded in 1911 by Philippe Genêt (1882-?) and Lucien Michon (1887-?), both graduates of the École Boulle in Paris, the firm was established on rue du Parc Royal in the Marais district. Initially focused on furniture design, the firm specialized in lighting from 1919 onwards, standing out for its creations in pressed and molded glass.

Genêt & Michon actively participated in renowned exhibitions such as the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and the Salon d'Automne from 1922, presenting luminaires and decorative objects that combined pressed glass with bronze or wrought iron frames. His designs, characterized by structured lines and geometric motifs, reflect the Art Deco aesthetic and were used in emblematic projects, such as the luminous wall of the grand staircase of the Hôtel Splendid in Dax (1928) and on luxury ships such as the "Normandie".
