Édouard Marcel Sandoz was a Swiss figurative and animalistic sculptor and watercolor painter. He was the son of Édouard Sandoz, founder of the chemical and later pharmaceutical company Sandoz (now Novartis), and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Antonin Mercié and Jean-Antoine Injalbert. Sandoz is best known for his numerous porcelain boxes, bottles, jugs and tea and coffee sets. He worked in various materials, such as marble, bronze and ceramics. His style is indebted to Art Nouveau. He was particularly interested in animal sculpture, especially fennecs and rabbits, of which he made numerous representations. In 1933 he founded the Société Française des Animaliers. His commitment to his fellow artists led him to preside for almost twenty years over the Taylor Foundation, created by Isidore Justin Séverin Taylor.
