DESCRIPTION
RENÉ LALIQUE (France, 1860-1945)
Sauterelles" model glass, ca. 1920-1930.
Blue pressed molded glass.
In very good state of preservation.
Signed on the base.
Measurements: 27 x 27 cm (diameter).
Sauterelles" model glass, made of molded and pressed glass in blue tone, with relief decoration of grasshoppers and foliage that runs along the surface with an organic rhythm. The piece fully embodies the naturalistic taste and decorative sensibility typical of the transition between Art Nouveau and Art Deco, where the vitreous material becomes a sculptural and ornamental support.
This model is part of the production of the firm founded by René Jules Lalique (1860-1945), one of the most influential figures in the renewal of the art of glass. Trained with the jeweler Louis Aucoq and later in London, Lalique noted for his ability to merge technique and imagination, developing innovative processes such as the characteristic "satin Lalique" or opalescent glass.
Beyond the design of luxury objects, jewelry, perfume bottles or tableware, Lalique took glass to a monumental scale, participating in ambitious decorative projects for public spaces, means of transport such as the Orient Express and religious buildings. His legacy, represented in important international museum collections, is manifested in pieces like this glass, where technical quality and formal elegance reach an exceptional synthesis.
