DESCRIPTION
GIO PONTI (Milan, 1891 - 1979) for Richard Ginori.
Double-handled vase, c. 1923-1930.
Glazed ceramic.
In very good state of preservation, with slight underglaze firing defect.
Presents seal on the base.
Measurements: 23 x 24 x 21 cm.
Piece of glazed ceramic conceived with globular body, double handle and a distinctive reticulated surface covered by a deep blue glaze. The design corresponds to Gio Ponti during his time as artistic director of Richard-Ginori, where he promoted a decisive renewal of the ceramic language by integrating artisanal tradition and modern sensibility.
Trained as an architect at the Politecnico di Milano, Ponti developed a multidisciplinary career that encompassed design, architecture and publishing. After his experience in World War I, he took over the artistic direction of Ginori, helping to define a refined, contemporary aesthetic. In parallel, he founded the influential magazine Domus, from which he set international taste for decades.
The piece fully reflects this ideology: structural clarity, balance of proportions and ornamental refinement expressed through texture and color. It thus fits into the context of a historic manufacture, active since 1735, which was able to evolve through collaboration with leading designers of the twentieth century, consolidating itself as a benchmark in European artistic ceramics.
