DESCRIPTION
FLAVIO POLI (Chioggia, 1900-Venice, 1984) for SEGUSO VETRI D'ARTE.
Set of vase and center, 1950s.
Hand blown Murano glass.
Perfect state of preservation.
Measurements: 38 x 21 x 9 cm (vase); 16 x 33 x 12,5 cm (center).
Elegant Murano glass set designed by Flavio Poli for Seguso in the 1950s. Both pieces show Poli's characteristic mastery of the use of sommerso glass, a technique in which successive layers of colored glass are encapsulated within transparent glass, generating an effect of great optical richness. The vase has an open and dynamic silhouette, with raised tops that accentuate its verticality, while the center develops a horizontal form of fluid lines, topped by a scroll that reinforces its sculptural character.
The ensemble reflects the elegance of mid-20th century Murano design, where the Venetian tradition of craftsmanship is combined with a modern, refined and deeply decorative sensibility. The strength of the color, the cleanness of the forms and the quality of execution place these pieces within the most refined production of Seguso Vetri d'Arte.
Artistic director of Seguso Vetri d'Arte since the late 1930s, Flavio Poli renewed the language of Murano glass through sober forms, intense chromaticism and an extraordinary technical mastery. His works are represented in important international collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Corning Museum of Glass and the Museo del Vetro de Murano.
