Measurements: 17 x 23 cm; 39.5 x 45 cm (frame).
Son of Elias Amador Garay -writer and historian-, Severo Amador soon became interested in painting. Trained at the National School of Fine Arts in Mexico City, he published numerous books, such as "Bocetos provincianos" (1907), paintings of customs in the naturalistic style, "Cantos de la sierra" (1918) and Las baladas del terruño (1931), the latter posthumous. In his works he describes landscapes, scenes and regional types of his native Mexico, as on this occasion he shows the municipality of Tetela del Volcán at the foot of the Popocatépetl volcano. Severo Amador spent part of his life in the psychiatric hospital Manicomio General de la Castañeda, where he painted some of his watercolors dated 1931, which led him to become known within the Mexican artistic panorama.
