Manuel Carbonell began his artistic education at the National School of Fine Arts in Havana. During the beginning he suffered an accident that prevented him from attending classes for a year. Finally, in 1945 he graduated as professor of drawing and sculpture, although he combined his work as a teacher with his artistic career, being part of the artistic circle of Fidelio Ponce, Victor Manuel and Amelia Pelaez, among others.
