Painter, draftsman and figurinista of fashion and theater well known in the Spain of between the wars, Jose de Zamora was Eduardo Chicharro's pupil. He lived during his youth in Paris, where he worked with the couturier Paul Poiret and the draughtsman Herté. Upon his return to Madrid, he soon became known in the bohemian circles of the time, and he participated in the cenacle that gathered around Ramón Gómez de la Serna in the Pombo café. In addition to his work as a plastic artist, Zamora was a writer of short novels with erotic themes, along the lines of Antonio de Hoyos and Álvaro Retana, recognized masters of Spanish gay literature. He also published some articles in "Cosmópolis" and "Tableros", was artistic director of the magazine "Perfiles" and collaborated with Tono and Tomás Pellicer in the production of "Sueños de opio", a theatrical comedy premiered in 1919 in Madrid.
