DESCRIPTION
GABRIEL MARTÍNEZ ALTÉS (Tortosa, Tarragona, 1861 - Barcelona, 1932).

Painter, draftsman and watercolorist, Martínez Altés was formed in the School of Fine Arts of La Lonja of Barcelona. He participated in the Exhibition of Vilanova i la Geltrú in 1882, being distinguished and awarded. He took part in the Universal Exhibition of Barcelona in 1888, as well as in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Madrid in 1892. A self-confessed Fortunyista and excellent teacher, he founded a drawing and painting academy in Barcelona at the end of the 19th century, where Vancells, Nogués, Nonell, Pidelaserra and Mallol, among other distinguished Catalan painters, were initiated.
