Manuel Vidal Fernández was an outstanding Cuban artist who cultivated diverse manifestations, including painting, drawing, engraving and graphic design. His artistic training was international: in 1959, he received a scholarship from the Cuban Ministry of Education to study painting in France, and between 1960 and 1961, he received another scholarship to study painting and engraving at the Royal Artistic Circle of Barcelona, Spain. He maintained a close relationship with Los Once. This group of young people, pioneers of informalist (or abstract expressionist) abstraction, revolutionized the conservative Cuban art scene of the 1950s, aligning it for the first time with international trends. Throughout his career, Vidal held numerous personal exhibitions, including: 1962: "Exhibition of Manolo Vidal. Fistful of Drawings, some Gouache and some Ink" at the Lyceum, Havana; 1964: "Exhibition Drawings by Manuel Vidal" at the "José Martí" National Library, Havana; 1995: "Dialogues, Dilemmas, Wishes and Speeches. Drawings by Manuel and Hilda Vidal" at the Domingo Ravenet Art Gallery, Havana; 1996: "The Interpretation of Dreams" at the Espacio Abierto Gallery, Revolution and Culture Magazine, Havana. He also participated in important group exhibitions.
