Outstanding cartoonist and illustrator, Joan Junceda was one of the most important cartoonists of the first half of the 20th century in Catalonia. Of Asturian origin through his father's side, he collaborated with most of the publications of his time, both for children and adults, as well as illustrating hundreds of books. He worked with important magazines such as "Cu-Cut!", "Papitu", "Picarol" and, above all, "En Patufet". He also illustrated Josep Maria Folch's "Historietas Ejemplares", published for the first time in the magazine "Esquitx". Another of his most important works for children and young people was "Bon seny", a compilation of ancestral Catalan moral lessons, elaborated by Josep Abril. "Bon seny" contains aphorisms, fables and examples of local humor, based on traditional Catalan Christian values, the famous "seny". Published in Catalan before the Civil War, "Bon seny" was a difficult book to find during the Franco era. Junceda's work, very extensive and very popular, stood out for its expressive success, his extraordinary technical skill and his artistic security, and it reflects the ways of life of the Catalan society of the first decades of the twentieth century, through a great power of synthesis. He used the pseudonyms "Titella", "Jafet", "Ribera", "Medí" and "Papassa", and also signed with the anagram of two jacks joined together to form a shape reminiscent of a musical note. Junceda is currently represented in the Esteban Vicente Museum in Segovia.
