War hero and illustrator of Le Soir, Horn was deeply impressed by the deeds of the charismatic Gaston Reiff, whose Olympic victory symbolized the rebirth of Belgium in the postwar period. Moved by this admiration, he dedicated to him this extraordinary circus-inspired scene, where Reiff appears as a skilled juggler between the Belgian lion and the American eagle, in a visual game loaded with symbolism. Surrounded by balloons, the Olympic rings and the globe, the athlete displays his dexterity with lightness and enthusiasm. The work is completed with an eloquent dedication: "To Gaston Reiff, Belgian champion and record holder, American champion, Olympic champion and world record holder, with all Horn's affection and admiration".
