This is the original drawing made by Dalí on one of the first pages of the book "Babaouo" (Paris, 1978), a deluxe edition that recovers the surrealist script conceived by the artist in 1932. These interventions, executed directly on the copy itself, have a unique character within his production, as they are located at the intersection between graphic work and editorial object, and constitute direct testimonies of his creative process.
In this drawing, Dalí constructs an apparently light scene by means of a continuous, precise line and great economy of means. The female figure, stylized and almost caricatured, rides a bicycle in a composition where the everyday is altered by absurd elements -the impossible headdress or the floating fragments-, generating an image with clear surrealist roots. The motif of the cyclist, recurrent in his imaginary, is linked to ideas of movement, modernity and a dynamic sensuality, present in various facets of his graphic production.
The immediacy of ink on paper allows access to a particularly valued dimension of Dalí: that of the direct creator, where the stroke functions as an extension of thought. To this is added a solid documentary base -signature and certificate of the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation- that places the work at a level of maximum guarantee. In today's market, original drawings of this type, particularly those linked to singular editorial projects, are in high demand and of notable interest for collectors.
Internationally acclaimed after the retrospective that the MOMA in New York dedicated to him in 1941, Joan Miró has won awards such as the Grand Prizes of the Venice Biennale and the Guggenheim Foundation, the Carnegie Prize for Painting, the Gold Medals of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Fine Arts, etc. His work can currently be seen at the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, as well as in important museums around the world, such as the Thyssen-Bornemisza, the MOMA in New York, the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the National Gallery in Washington, the MNAM in Paris and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo.
