DESCRIPTION
PERE GASTÓ VILANOVA (Barcelona, 1908 - 1997).
"Angel musician", 1963.

Measurements: 65 x 50 cm; 90 x 73 cm (frame).
The work reflects the personal language of Pere Gastó, based on an essentialized figuration, with lyrical and symbolic roots. The musical motif, suggested by the instrument held by the angel, reinforces the poetic and contemplative character of the composition.
Self-taught, Pere Gastó frequently attended the drawing workshop of the Círculo Artístico de Barcelona, and exhibited for the first time at the city's Spring Salon in 1932. His first individual exhibition was held at the Estilo gallery in Madrid (1947). Since then he exhibited regularly in the Parés (Barcelona) and El Cisne (Madrid) galleries. His work is represented in the Museums of Contemporary Art of Barcelona, Madrid and Toledo, as well as in the Provincial Museum of Alava.
