DESCRIPTION
MAGDA BOLUMAR (Caldes d’Estrac, Barcelona, 1936)
Untitled, Molló, 1973.
Watercolor and ink on paper.
Signed, inscribed, and dated.
Measurements: 47 x 68 cm; 53 x 74 cm with frame.
A light and expansive composition, built from lines, circles, triangular shapes, and small symbols that take shape against the blank space of the paper. The work possesses a marked rhythmic, almost musical quality, where the elements seem to float like a constellation in motion.
Magda Bolumar Chertó is a Catalan artist born in Caldes d’Estrac in 1936. She trained with Rafael Estrany and at the School of Arts and Crafts in Mataró, and beginning in the 1950s, she became involved in the Catalan avant-garde scene and with artists associated with Dau al Set. Together with the sculptor Moisès Villèlia, she conducted intensive research into materials, textures, and organic forms.
Her work is characterized by the use of textile media, burlap, paper, weaves, symbols, and structures with abstract roots. Her work is represented in institutions such as the Reina Sofía Museum, the MACBA, and other public and private collections.
