Manuel Quintana received his training at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona and later expanded his education, thanks to various scholarships, at the International School of Contemporary Mural Painting in Sant Cugat del Vallés (Barcelona) and by studying film and video at the Barcelona Film Center. He also returned to the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts to study intaglio printmaking. In 1970, he held his first solo exhibitions at the Caixa de Aforros in Vigo and at the Hostal Reyes Católicos in Santiago. The following year, he exhibited in Barcelona at the Álamo Gallery and once again held a solo exhibition in his hometown, this time at the Círculo Mercantil. Over the following years, he continued to hold solo exhibitions in galleries and art centers primarily in Catalonia and Galicia, although he also exhibited solo at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Ibiza, the Sala da Irmandade Galega in Caracas, the ARCO art fair in Madrid, the Manuela Vilches Gallery in Marbella, and elsewhere. He made his definitive international breakthrough in 1991, the year he participated in the SAGA art fair with an exhibition of graphic works presented with the support of the Trinta Gallery in Paris. Four years later, he held his first solo exhibition in New York at the Artropia Gallery, and in 1996 he exhibited again in the city at the Japan Airlines Gallery at JFK Airport. His work is currently represented in the Museo do Pobo Galego, the City Hall, and the Galician Center for Contemporary Art in Santiago; the Xunta de Galicia Collection; the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona; the Museum of Contemporary Art in Ibiza and the Museum of Modern Art in Tarragona, the Castrelos Museum in Vigo, the Villa de Medicis Museum in La Varonne (France), the National Library of Madrid, the Gertrude Stein Collection in New York, the Toyota Museum in Tokyo, and other collections.
