BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
BJÖRN HULTÉN (Sweden, 1928-2008) for BOFYRA AB, Ulricehamn, Sweden.
Sideboard, 1960s.
Oak.
Measurements: 72 x 170 x 46 cm.
Sideboard buffet made of oak wood that presents a Swedish design of the sixties. It is a piece of furniture with a markedly horizontal structure, with simple and rounded volumes, basically a stylized prism raised on four tall and narrow square legs, which visually lighten the design even more as they are located away from the corners. At the front, the sideboard is organized in three parts, the two lateral ones with doors and the central one with drawers. The handles are typically mid-century.
Björn Hultén was an interior architect commissioned to design Swedish embassies around the world, including Moscow, Washington and Cairo. As a furniture designer, Hultén is known for his more than 200 chair designs, the most famous of which is perhaps the H55 armchair in 1955. His Kryss safari chair, designed in the 1970s for the Swedish embassy in Cairo, is also one of his best-loved and best-known designs. Hultén was also a professor at the School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg.
