DESCRIPTION
JACQUES BINY (France, 1913-1976) for Lita
Pair of Zodiac sconces, 1950.
Black lacquered metal and glass.
Measurements: 20 x 7 x 7 x 7 cm.
Jacques Biny's "Zodiac" lamp was published by the French house Lita, designed in the 1950s. It has a rotating system that allows it to rotate in any direction.
Jacques Biny was a designer and publisher born in 1913. Over the course of 30 years, he developed nearly 400 lighting models. Efficiency, simplicity, sobriety, elegance and the rejection of ostentation are the common denominators of Jacques Biny's work. The priority given to function and the economy of means in formal research suggest certain parallels with the American artistic current of Minimalism, which appeared in the mid-1960s, which explains the enthusiasm of collectors both in the United States and in Europe.
