BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Set of three chairs; Spain, c.1960.
Walnut wood and chenille fabric.
Varnished with patina.
Measurements: 79 x 54 x 50 cm (x3).
Set of three chairs, belonging to the Spanish design scene of the mid-twentieth century, are an eloquent example of the synthesis between traditional craftsmanship and structural modernity characteristic of the period. Made of walnut wood, they have a solid but visually light construction, where the rational geometry of the legs and backrest dialogues with the warmth of the natural material.
The structure, defined by gently rounded straight lines and openings cut into the backrest and sides, responds to a functionalist language of clear modernist inspiration, but reinterpreted from a Mediterranean sensibility. The choice of walnut, with its expressive grain and warm tone, provides an organic component that contrasts with the formal austerity of the piece.
The chenille upholstery, with its dense texture and neutral tone, reinforces the balance between comfort and visual sobriety. The ergonomics of the seat and the slight inclination of the backrest are evidence of a concern for comfort without sacrificing purity of form.
In the context of Spanish design in the 1960s, these chairs can be understood as part of a trend that sought to reconcile the legacy of craftsmanship with the new ideals of modern international design. Their aesthetic language is located at the intersection between Nordic rationalism and Mediterranean craftsmanship, which introduces tactile nuances and an emotional dimension to the object.
