VICO MAGISTRETTI (Italy, 1920 - 2006) for Cassina
Veranda" armchair, 1970s.
Cream leather upholstery.
Lacquered metal frame.
Folding.
Condition 7/10 (some signs).
Measurements: 92 x 82 x77 cm; 44 cm seat height.
Reclining armchair characterized by its organic silhouette and enveloping lines, conceived to offer an ergonomic and comfortable resting experience. It features a structure upholstered in light-colored leather, with a high backrest and a continuous seat up to the footrest, following the functional and humanistic approach typical of Vico Magistretti's work. The whole is supported by a structural base in black lacquered metal, which provides stability and contrasts with the softness of the upholstery. A representative piece of Italian design from the second half of the 20th century, published by Cassina, a key international design firm.
Vico Magistretti studied at the Milan Polytechnic, graduating in 1945, and was a follower of Ernesto Nathan Rogers. During the fifties he moved into the industrial design of furniture and lighting pieces, and some of his works are kept in the most important museums in Europe, the United States and Japan, with special mention of his presence in the permanent exhibition at the MoMA in New York. Throughout his career Magistretti was honored with numerous awards, including the gold medal at the 1951 Milan Triennale and the Grand Prix at the 1954 Milan Triennale, the Compasso d'Oro award in 1967 and again in 1979, and the gold medal of the Chartered Society of Industrial Artists & Designer in 1986.
