DESCRIPTION
KLAUS UDERAT (Germany, 1932).
Modular sofa "Corbi", 1969.
Presented in very good condition. Recently restored. Chenille velvet.
Measurements: 32 x 106 x 70 cm: 32 x 70 (cushion).
Conceived in 1969 and officially presented at the 1972 Cologne International Furniture Fair in Germany, Klaus Uredat's sofa embodies the boldest and most visionary spirit of experimental design. Its powerful sculptural silhouette not only defines the space: it transforms it. Each module is composed of two interlocking elements that dialogue with each other, creating a dynamic, versatile and profoundly contemporary piece.
Its true essence lies in its freedom. The modules can be rearranged with total flexibility, allowing you to configure a traditional sofa, four independent seats or an elegant extended chaise longue. It is an open invitation to interact with the design and adapt it to every moment.
Produced only between 1972 and 1974, and in limited quantities, this model is today an exceptional piece: rare, collectible and representative of the radical innovation that marked the design of the late twentieth century.
Born in Germany in 1932, Klaus Uredat is a visionary German designer and architect whose work reached its zenith in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Although his name is less well-known to the general public compared to contemporaries such as Verner Panton or Joe Colombo, he is revered by collectors and design experts for creating some of the most radical, sculptural and futuristic pieces of his time. His design philosophy lies at the intersection of functional sculpture and comfort, characterized by the use of plastic materials and organic forms that challenged the conventions of traditional furniture.Uredat developed his career during a period of reconstruction and subsequent economic optimism in Europe. His work matured during the Space Age, a time when industrial design became obsessed with the future, modularity and new synthetic materials such as polyurethane and fiberglass.
His legacy rests mainly on two legendary designs that today are museum pieces and highly collectible objects: the "Corbi" Modular system (1969), officially presented at the International Furniture Fair in Cologne in 1972, and the "Targa" chair (1971), manufactured by the Horn Collection.
