BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

FERNANDO CAMPANA (Brazil, 1961) AND HUMBERTO CAMPANA (Brazil, 1953) for Edra.
"Favela chair, design 1991.
Pine wood.
In good condition, with light marks of use.
Measurements: 75 x 60 x 65 cm.
The Favela chair is much more than a seat: it is a material manifesto. Constructed from multiple strips of natural pine wood, each strip is manually nailed on top of the previous one in an apparently random arrangement. This handcrafted process, far from responding to a rigid pattern, turns each piece into an unrepeatable composition. No two chairs are alike; each one is the result of a cumulative gesture.
The "Favela" chair embodies the creative philosophy of Fernando Campana and Humberto Campana, who founded Estudio Campana in 1983, marking a before and after in contemporary design. Their work is distinguished by the exploration of unconventional materials and the ability to transform humble elements into pieces with a strong poetic charge. Fragments of wood, textile scraps, plastic tubes, cables or even stuffed toys acquire a new dignity in his hands, placing himself on the border between art and design.
Throughout his career, Estudio Campana has collaborated with major international firms and has exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, consolidating a work that transcends function to become discourse. Its pieces, often conceived as limited editions or handcrafted series, question the limits between utilitarian object and artistic work, proposing a vision of design as a transformative and profoundly human process.
