Vintage handmade Murano chandelier-sculpture, 1960s.
Signed "V. Dell'Olio" on the base.
The form of "spikes" or "stalagmites" is very characteristic of the Space Age aesthetics of the 1960s. It evokes natural formations (ice crystals or quartz) but with an impeccable industrial finish.
The use of the blown glass technique and hand modeling is appreciated. The translucent bluish tone is typical of Venetian foundries, where the aim was for light not only to illuminate, but to filter and refract through the thickness of the glass.
