JOAN GARDY ARTIGAS (Boulogne, Paris, 1938).
"Vase".
Glazed ceramic.
Signed on the base.
Measurements: 15 x 7,5 cm (diameter).
Joan Gardy's artistic language is characterized by a post-minimalist aesthetic rooted in the Mediterranean tradition, where matter, form and balance dialogue with sobriety and expressive force.
Painter and sculptor, Joan Gardy Artigas, eudonym of Joan Llorens Gardy, began his career as an assistant to Joan Miró during his adolescence, a decisive experience in his training. He later moved to Paris, where he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and continued his apprenticeship at the École du Louvre, before traveling to the United States. Son of the renowned ceramist Josep Llorens Artigas, in the 1960s he resumed his collaboration with Miró, a fruitful relationship that lasted for two decades. In parallel to this joint work, Gardy Artigas developed a solid solo career, producing monumental sculptures in countries such as France, Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan, as well as smaller works, lithographs and engravings. His work is represented at the Artigas Foundation in Barcelona and in leading international galleries.
