Dining table model "Papallona", designed in 1991 by Vicent Martínez and Lola Castelló for the Valencian firm Punt Mobles, one of the main references of contemporary Spanish design.

The design responds to the principles of functionality and formal purification characteristic of Mediterranean design, incorporating an ingenious system of opening by means of folding wings that, like "butterfly wings", rotate around a central axis allowing the surface of the tabletop to be enlarged with a simple and elegant gesture. This technical resource, in addition to its efficiency, gives the model its identity, making it an iconic piece in the firm's production.

Formally, the harmony of its lines, the balance of proportions and the visual lightness provided by the keeled legs, in dialogue with the warmth of the wood, stand out. The combination of functional design and innovative mechanical solution makes this table a representative example of late 20th century Spanish furniture.

Lola Castelló is an outstanding industrial designer trained at the School of Arts and Crafts in Valencia. In 1980, together with Vicente Martínez, she founded Punt Mobles, a firm that won the National Design Award in 1997. Vicente Martínez is a key figure in contemporary Valencian design, with work in museum collections and an outstanding career in the field of industrial design.
