AFRA SCARPA (Montebelluna, 1937 - Treviso, 2011) & TOBIA SCARPA (Venice, 1935)
Set of 4 chairs. Model "Veronica", 1980s.
Black leather, with fiberglass interior.
Exhibits wear consistent with age and use. Patina and scuffs on the upholstery.
Measurements: 72 x 52 x 54 cm.
Set of four chairs model "Veronica", designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa in the 1980s, within a period marked by experimentation with new materials and constructive solutions.
The pieces have a strong sculptural design, with enveloping volumes that integrate back, seat and armrests in a continuous form. The internal fiberglass structure allows for these organic geometries, while the black leather upholstery provides formal unity and comfort.
The model reflects the evolution of Italian design towards more expressive and industrial languages, while maintaining the balance between technical innovation and formal refinement characteristic of Scarpa.
The couple Tobia and Afra Scarpa opened their studio in 1960. Their clients included Gavina, B&B Italia, Cassina and Meritalia. They received important awards, such as the Compasso d'Oro in 1969 and the International Forum Design in 1992. Their designs can be found in international museums such as MOMA, the National Museum of Design in New York, the Philadelphia Art Museum, the Louvre Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum, among other institutions.
