DESCRIPTION
POUL HENNINGSEN (Denmark, 1894-1967).
Ceiling lamp model "PH Krone", 1933.
Metal and yellow opaline glass.
Measurements: 60 x 70 x 70 cm (lampshades: 20 cm).
This model is part of the famous lighting system developed by Poul Henningsen, based on the superposition of screens to achieve a diffuse light, without glare and of great environmental quality. The crown-shaped structure ("Krone") organizes the arms in a radial fashion, each topped by staggered lampshades that distribute the light in a uniform and balanced manner. The yellow hue of the glass reinforces the warm, domestic character of the piece, in line with Scandinavian design principles.
Designer, architect and critic, Henningsen was one of the key figures of interwar Danish culture and a strong advocate of functionalism. He focused much of his work on the study of lighting, developing innovative solutions that combine science and aesthetics. His work, among which the famous "PH Artichoke" lamp stands out, is today represented in important institutions such as the Designmuseum Danmark, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
