The CH24 set of chairs, known as the Wishbone Chair, clearly synthesizes the principles of Danish design of the mid-20th century: constructive precision, economy of means and a close relationship between form and function. Designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1949 for Carl Hansen & Søn, the piece has established itself as one of the universal icons of modern furniture.
Its Y-shaped backrest, together with the continuous curved arm and the braided rope seat, resolves with remarkable lightness a complex structure, where each element responds to both a technical and ergonomic logic. The interest of this lot is reinforced by the fact that it consists of ten production examples from the 1960s, an unusual configuration that underlines its attractiveness both for dining sets and for interior design projects of a representative nature.
Hans J. Wegner, trained as a cabinetmaker, was one of the great renovators of the chair in the 20th century, developing a work based on a profound knowledge of wood and formal refinement. His designs, present in institutions such as the MoMA in New York or Die Neue Sammlung in Munich, are today an essential reference of modern design.
