Made in the Netherlands during the 1950s, it is an eloquent example of the material and expressive sensibility associated with Brutalism as applied to furniture. Its configuration is articulated around a circular table top of generous proportions, whose perimeter is enriched by a repetitive carving of concave forms that introduces a constant visual rhythm. The supports, robust and with a forceful profile, reinforce this impression of solidity. Their slightly inclined geometry and the volumetric treatment of the legs evoke a certain archaicity, as if the piece were in dialogue with ancestral typologies reinterpreted from a modern point of view. This tension between the primitive and the contemporary is precisely one of the most distinctive features of brutalism in interior and furniture design.
In stylistic terms, the table can be understood as a reaction to the lighter and more rationalist currents of earlier modernism. Here, wood is not subjected to a logic of extreme refinement, but is presented in its most honest and tactile condition, allowing irregularities, texture and mass to define the language of the object.
