This pair of table lamps, made in Italy in the 1980s and following models by Angelo Mangiarotti, embodies the formal purity and material rigor characteristic of the designer. The cylindrical base in Carrara marble, with its delicate natural veining, provides a solid and sculptural presence, where the material becomes the absolute protagonist, while the metal shaft, discreet and functional, connects with a textile shade of simple lines that diffuses the light in a soft and uniform way. This contrast between the visual weight of the marble and the lightness of the upper assembly reflects the balance between structure and elegance typical of Italian design at the time.
Angelo Mangiarotti's design activity, the theoretical foundations of which were laid out in the book "In nome dell'architettura" (In the name of architecture) published in 1987. Although the language of architecture is used to express a new man-environment relationship, Mangiarotti attributes a very special role to plastic research in his activity as a designer.
