Table lamp Space Age. Murano, 1970s.
Blown opaline glass and black lacquered metal.
Very good overall condition. Rewired.
Measurements: 101 x 34 x 34 cm.
Table lamp made of blown opaline glass, consisting of a truncated cone base and an upper diffuser of large volume in the form of a bulb, joined by a black lacquered metal ring with perforations and screws, a distinctive element of Italian design of the time. The set is fully inscribed in the Space Age aesthetic developed in Murano during the 1970s, a language influenced by the fascination with the space race and futuristic culture, which translates into organic forms, amplified volumes and an almost sculptural conception of light. In this piece, the diffuse lighting and the purity of the opal glass reinforce the idea of a technological yet domestic object, where design and formal innovation converge to evoke an imaginary of modernity and future characteristic of the period.
Space Age is the name given to the period in which the space race began in 1957 with the launch of Sputnik. This fever to conquer space also reached design, and during the sixties and seventies a decoration model was developed based on an idyllic vision of the future, and everything to do with spaceships, new technologies and innovative materials.
