The Strips sofa, designed by renowned Italian designer Cini Boeri for Arflex in 1972, is one of the most influential and revolutionary pieces of 20th century Italian design. Conceived as an innovative modular system, Strips transformed the traditional idea of the sofa thanks to its informal aesthetic, its quilted volumes and its characteristic continuous quilted cover that wraps around the entire structure, giving it a soft, cozy and contemporary look. Its design, designed to prioritize comfort and flexibility of use, broke with the rigid forms of previous furniture and perfectly reflected the new relaxed, domestic lifestyle of the 1970s. Awarded the Compasso d'Oro in 1979, today Strips is considered an icon of modern design for the timelessness of its language, the innovation of its modular concept and its ability to combine functionality, comfort and timeless elegance.
Italian designer Cini Boeri studied at the Politecnico di Milano, graduating in 1951. She began her professional activity independently in 1963, after a period of collaboration with Marco Zanuso, and dedicated herself to work in architecture and design. He has designed houses, apartments and commercial premises both in Italy and abroad, paying particular attention to the functionality of space in small houses, as well as to the psychological relationships between man and his environment. Examples of his work can now be seen in museums and exhibitions around the world. Throughout her career she has received numerous awards, including the Compasso d'Oro in 1979 and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles in 2008.
