The Bendt Winge Ellipse No. 2 table is an elegant coffee table characterized by its distinctive elliptical top and visually light curved wood frame. Usually made of rosewood or teak, it combines Scandinavian precision craftsmanship with an organic, flowing design, highly representative of the Nordic modernism of the period. The base of the table forms an ellipse - hence its name - which gives it structural robustness as well as an ergonomic and lightweight appearance. Practical and versatile, it can be used as a dining, work or kitchen table, and can even be folded against the wall to optimize space. Its importance lies in the technical sophistication of its construction and how it encapsulates the Scandinavian quest for functionality, warmth and timeless beauty, making it today a highly prized piece by collectors of Norwegian vintage design.
Bendt Winge was a designer and cabinetmaker linked to the Scandinavian modernism of the mid-twentieth century, known mainly for his furniture with organic lines, high quality craftsmanship and special attention to ergonomics. He developed a good part of his career in collaboration with the manufacturer Westnofa, for whom he designed armchairs and armchairs in laminated wood and leather that combined elegance, comfort and a very refined construction. His pieces, produced mainly during the 1960s and 1970s, are today highly valued in Nordic vintage design for their sculptural character and the excellence of their materials and finishes.
